This is the funny question that arose by Australian researchers. Verdict: it is the salt that causes the addiction to the chips. However, it is not really good for your health...
Why are we addicted to the chips?
They are essential to the hour of the aperitif. Essential before football games and TVseries. They are the perfect compliment the guacamole, tartar sauce, the old-fashioned mustard and Mexican sauce... The chips, we love that.
Faced with the evidence, researchers at Deakin University (Australia - source) arose this issue - a little far fetched, we grant you: why do we love both chips? To find out, they conducted an experience with 48 volunteers (men and women in various profiles), which they presented several kinds of chips, featuring flavors varied and carried out according to different recipes.
Result: scientists realized that more food was dirty, more it was addictive - researchers have also observed an increase in consumption by 11% on average when the chips were very salty.
Cardiovascular and bone disorders
Problem: excess salt is bad for your health. If the World Health Organization recommends approximately 5 grams of NaCl (salt chemical formula) per day in France, weare used to in swallow 8 grams daily, and some people even regularly rise up to 12g/day!
At the level of the organism, overconsumption of salt can cause or aggravate certain cardiovascular disorders and chronic diseases: high blood pressure, heart failure, diabetes... In addition, salt was also involved in the development of osteoporosis andcertain bone disorders. Not to mention that the chips are generally very fat: thus, inmay 2013, a Harvard Medical School study had calculated that a packet of crisps amounted to 5 liters of oil. Incredible!
What can we replace the chips salted? Why not opt for fruit or vegetable chips? Therecipe is simple: it is cut very thin slices of our favorite foods (apples, carrots, tomatoes) and leave them to dry in the oven at 60 ° C for several hours. You can also beton dips (of crunchy vegetables) with a sauce made of curd cheese with 0% fat: lightand healthy!
